Orrson Custom Farming LTD of Apple Creek, Ohio, has been in business for three generations. The custom farming enterprise began in 1946, custom harvesting for nearby farmers using a one-row, pull-type chopper.
Today, Orrson Custom Farming employs a crew of 16 people, including family, and has customers spread from Georgia to Michigan. Their harvest season starts in Georgia in late February or early March (moving their way toward the north during the course of the year) and doesn't end until Thanksgiving time when they finish fall harvesting back in Georgia. The family continues to raise corn and soybeans on 700 acres of cropland in the Apple Creek area of Wayne County, Ohio.
OCF provides nice houses when the crew is at the home base, and the crew is expected to cook for themselves during this time.
While on the road, the crew stays in hotels.
